Felt is the oldest natural fabric known to mankind, predating knitting and weaving, with archaeologists finding fragments of felt dating back to 6500 B.C. Felt is made when animal hair fibers, usually sheep’s wool, are permanently entangled by layering combed wool, wetting with soap and water, then agitating by rubbing, rolling or pounding forming a dense fabric.
About Marina Post
"I discovered felt in January 2011 and have been completely absorbed, exploring every aspect of felt. I currently work with raw fiber (wool, alpaca, silk) making works of felt. My inspiration is gathered from the world I experience, from nature, and from other artists’ work, all of which inform my work in color and composition. Fiber and felting are a perfect expression of what I want to create: objects of beauty which are satisfyingly tactile and which nourish the soul." - Marina Post
