Wee Ones

This week the weather took a turn, and reminded us that it is technically still summer in Chicago. And each year I always forget that the Chicago weather likes to play a little trick like this before full blown Autumn arrives. The weather's last hold on Summer inspired my inner child. Creating for kids has a lot of perks, especially when the pattern is playful.

What do I love about kids patterns?
1. They are cute
2. They go by fast
3. They don't use a ton of yarn
4. They are great for busting some of your stash!

Plus, most of the patterns below have an adult version for those of us that like a little playfulness in our lives! Be sure to check out the fun free patterns at the bottom! Enjoy and happy making!

Hyzenthlay Rabbit Ears Beanie by Sheila Toy Stromberg

Can this beanie get any cuter?! A sweet gift for your favorite little one, plus a great way to use up all those random colors from your stash! I paired it up with Wool and the Gang's Wool Me Tender in white, and picked out some autumn flower colors in Rhichard Devrieze mini skeins. This is a fun pattern, don't be shy to mix in a lot of colors, and change up the rabbit color too (grey and black would be cute too!)

What you'll need:
Needle size: US 10 (6 mm) & US 10.5 (6.5 mm)
Yardage: 100 - 250 yards
Weight: Aran/Worsted
Suggested Yarn: 1 skein of Wool and the Gang's Wool Me Tender, in the color white & colorful mini skeins of Rhichard Devrieze.

Tinsel Mitts by Andrea Mowry

As a very tactile kid, I loved my fold over mittens. As a maker adult, I still love them. Sometimes you just need your fingers free to knit, or look at your phone for ravelry patterns. This pattern has both classic mittens and fold over mittens, so your whole family is covered on how they like to wear their mitts! Knit these up with Rhichard Devrieze's Sirocco in Cypress Grove, and your mittens will put the 'fun' in functional!

What you'll need:
Needle size: US 5 (3.75 mm) & US 6 (4 mm)
Yardage: 100 - 240 yards
Weight: DK
Suggested Yarn: 1 skein of Rhichard Devrieze, Sirocco in color Cypress Grove
