This week I was out with friends and I was immediately captivated with one of my friends sweater. He was wearing a natural alpaca wool sweater with a clean design. This friend always has great knits and I realized that most of what I look at is designs that are made with women in mind. My friend inspired me to make an effort to widen my pattern inspiration to be more inclusive for the men who also love to knit and wear handmade knits.Read More

Last weekend I took a mini road trip with my boyfriend up to Northern Michigan. We had a lovely weekend eating farm to table food, drinking local cider, visiting local yarn shops, and kayaking down the clearest river we've ever seen. During our trip, we had many discussions about supporting local economies, sustainable businesses and why we at Firefly are dedicated to doing just that. This inspired me to share with you the businesses we support and why it is important for us to be an all natural and sustainable business.Read More

This week I was inspired by our Intro to Fair Isle workshop to find patterns that play with color. Whether it's finding the right color balance for a project, or contrasting color for an extra pop, almost all of us can agree that color plays a big part in the yarn we love and the projects we make. This week, I challenge you to explore mixing colors and textures for your projects. An unusual pairing might end up being a delight!Read More
What do I love about kids patterns?
1. They are cute
2. They go by fast
3. They don't use a ton of yarn
4. They are great for busting some of your stash!
Plus, most of the patterns have an adult version for those of us that like a little playfulness in our lives!Read More

The fall winds are starting to blow through Chicago. The change from Summer to Fall has always been my favorite transition. It's like a sigh of relief from the hot and busy summer. And, it's the time I feel most inspired to pick up all the crafts and just start making! Over the last 8 months, Firefly has grown and started to spread her wings. And, much like the Fall winds, I finally can sigh in relief and start some new beginnings. As a shop owner, I look at patterns every day. I believe it is important to constantly inspire myself, that way I can help inspire others. And what better way to spread the inspiration than create an Inspiration Blog dedicated to patterns and yarn that inspire us together! Once a week I will put together a post about what has inspired me throughout the week and hopefully I can pass that on to you.Read More
