Chicago Cartoon Club

A club for adult animation nerds and cartoon enthusiasts

This is a club for adults. Must be 18+ to join.

Our next meeting will be on Thursday, January 25th from 6:30pm - 8:30pm at Firefly Fiber Arts

March Showing:

Tekkonkinkreet (2006)

Join us Thursday, March 25th at 6:30 for our monthly meeting!

This month, we are screening Michael Arias’ 2006 directorial debut, Tekkonkinkreet. Arias, an American-born filmmaker primarily active in Japan, is credited as the first non-Japanese director of an Anime film for his work on Tekkonkinkreet.

Tekkonkinkreet, based off the 1993 Taiyō Matsumoto manga series by the same name, follows orphan brothers, Kuro クロ (Black) and Shiro シロ (White), as they navigate the shifting atmosphere in their home of Takaramachi, or “Treasure Town”.

Black, a volatile street-wise punk who sees Treasure Town as “his town”, contends with losing control while having to care for his younger brother as a new nefarious force moves into Treasure Town and vies for supremacy.

About Chicago Cartoon Club

The Chicago Cartoon Club was created to celebrate animation. This club does not take itself too seriously, and its main goal is to bring people together to have fun, watch cartoons, and exchange recommendations!

When and where does Chicago Cartoon Club meet?
We meet the fourth Thursday of each month from 6pm - 8pm at Firefly Fiber Arts Studio.

So, are you like a knitting group?
No!!! Though we meet in a yarn store, this is not a knit group, and you do not need to know how to knit/crochet to join. If you want to bring a small project to work on while we watch, you do you!

What’s your *food* situation?
So we meet during dinner time, which I must admit is less than ideal. However, I will be bringing a shareable snack and hope you can as well! We have a microwave, fridge and kettle available to use for any possible snackage during our viewings. Feel free to order any food to the shop as well!

What can I nominate to watch?
We’re interested in seeing all types of animation! From Saturday morning cartoons and stop-motion animation films, to Japanese anime and Pixar classics, we want to showcase the diverse world of cartoons and animation, so please don’t hesitate to suggest something you’d like to share with others!
