June Meet Up

The Alpha of Bleake Isle by Kathryn Moon

F/M

He's waited half a century to choose an omega. Lord Ronson Cadogan can stall no longer. He needs an omega and he needs an heir. Settled on the obvious perfect choice, and determined to see his fate through, Ronson can't afford to wait for the next ceremony to claim what he is owed. If only he was more excited about the match.

They call her the mouse. Mairwen Posy knows precisely who the Alpha of Bleake Isle will choose, and it certainly isn't her. In fact, it's so predictable it's almost boring. Resigned to her fate of disappearing into the background, Mairwen takes the role of observer, distracting the ache of being left out with the entertainment of dragonkin society's unfolding stories.

All is as expected, until the sudden twist in a familiar plot sends Mairwen in the least likely direction, right into the arms of the alpha.

C.W.: Fatphobia, misogynistic culture, social ostracism, attempted sexual assault, discussions about dangerous pregnancies, bad parenting, treasonous plots, minor violence. Sexual Content Information: Virginity/first-time, birth control, fingering, vaginal penetration, oral sex, knotting, biting, bruising, lots of breast and nipple play, but listen friends this is a different race and she doesn’t have a hymen because I didn’t feel like it.

Whispers of the Deep by Emma Hamm

F/F

Belladonna was born wrong. At least that’s what her parents, religious community, and even her beloved sister believe. Walking away from the church hasn’t helped her come to terms with her purpose in life, and when her sister is diagnosed with cancer, Belladonna has nowhere to turn…until a demon offers her a deal.

After agreeing, nothing is like she expects. There’s no fiery hell to speak of. Her soul seems to still be her own. All she’s required to do is serve. When she’s auctioned off to Rusalka, a powerful and ruthless succubus, her confusion only grows. Rusalka surprises her at every turn, even refusing to allow Belladonna to bear a child that would benefit the entirety of their territory.

Rusalka has sacrificed everything for their people. There are no lengths they won’t go to as leader…but they see something of themself in Belladonna, a familiarity that tempts beyond anything they could have dreamed. They want to keep her.

But if Belladonna can’t release her shame and step into a future where she’s living for herself instead of in service to others… Things may be over even before they begin.

CW: religious trauma (in general, but specifically related to queerness, sex, body image, shame, the concept of sin, and the role people assigned female at birth are expected to play in being virgins and then having a bunch of children), cancer (sibling, discussed throughout), abuse (parental, religious), drugging (consensual, magical), pregnancy (discussed throughout), breeding (epilogue)

About The Wild Ride Book Club

The Wild Ride Book Club was created from the shared love of reading fantasy romance novels. This book club does not take itself too seriously, and its main goal is to bring people together to have fun, swap books, and read books with lots of spice!

When and where does the book club meet?
We meet the 1st Sunday of each month from 4pm - 6pm. Be sure to check the location, we like to bounce around the neighborhood establishments! This is not a knit group, and you do not need to know how to knit/crochet to join, but some of us might be doing so as we discuss!

What is Fantasy Romance?
Fantasy romance is any work of fiction with fantastical, magical, or non-human elements (not set in space, and not with a technology focus, as this would be classified as sci-fi), where there's a significant romantic element. This club focuses on the romantic element that includes lots of spice!
