You know Merino yarn, now try other breeds of wool! Join us for a yarn tasting workshop and experience new fibers!

This workshop includes guided discussions on wool characteristics, different categories of sheep breeds (fine wool, medium wool, down, long wool, primitive/non-industrial). The yarn tasting pack includes samples of five breed specific wools for each student to knit and crochet, and additional breed specific fibers and wool to examine in the class.

We will discuss the history of select sheep breeds, resources for learning more, and what types of wool are typically suited for what purposes. You'll work out with hands-on experience with different breed specific yarn, and lots of ideas of how to incorporate it into your making going forward.

In this workshop, students will learn how to darn a rectangular patch using yarn. Learn how to identify knit fabrics, learn about the best tool and materials used to make repairs, and create a mending sampler to practice repair techniques!

Learn how to create your first pair of hand-knit socks! In this class, we are learning with a beginner friendly pattern written by the instructor. This pattern uses worsted weight yarn to make it easier to learn the techniques needed to create socks. Once you understand the construction of socks, it will be easy for you to make all different kinds!

Our experienced instructor, Sarah, will guide you through the many techniques used in sock knitting from casting on, turning the heel, and grafting the toe, with helpful tips along the way.

Please note this class includes “homework” that will need to be done outside of class for the next session.

Meet "Grape" the French Angora rabbit while learning about what it takes to keep your very own fiber producing animal! In this workshop, Jasmine will cover rabbit husbandry, grooming requirements, how to take care of fiber, and what's it's like to spin and knit angora/angora blends.

Get your questions answered while petting and grooming Grape, see how Angora fiber works up and acts as a knit, and get an opportunity to “spin from the cloud” for students who are familiar with spinning.

Tunisian crochet is a great technique to learn if you want to expand your skills as a crocheter or try your hand at crochet as a knitter. 

Tunisian crochet is a unique subset of crochet that combines techniques from both knitting and crochet to create a smooth and plush fabric that works up quickly; perfect for blankets, sweaters, and everything in between!

Leslie will present an overview of the wonderful textures and patterns possible using Tunisian crochet.  We will explore the basic concepts and stitches used to create luscious Tunisian crochet sweaters and accessories. Zines are an incredible way to share information, create art, process grief, discuss hobbies, build community, and showcase unconnected moments. In this workshop, Bekah will share zines from their collection and walk participants through two simple zine formats that can be done at home. Participants will then be able to fill their zines however they wish and pass them around to share with fellow workshop participants (but only if they want to).

Bring your ideas and drawing materials--or come in with neither and just go with the rhythm of it all! Paper, drawing materials, scissors, and other zine making materials will be provided.
